Shanghai Bar Association (hereinafter refer to as SBA) was established in accordance with the Law of the People's Republic of China on Lawyers and under the direction and supervision of the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice. It is a social organization for all the Shanghai lawyers and law firms.
The controlling and administrative body of the SBA is the Congress of Delegates, which is the decision and policy-marking body of the Association. The delegates are democratically elected. The standing organ of the congress of Delegates is the Council. The Council is responsible for the election of President, Vice President and Standing Council Members, and for the appointment of consultants. As a standing body of the Council, The Standing Council appoints the Secretary General of the SBA. There are special committees set up under the Council and each of them is responsible for a particular area of work of the SBA. Additionally, there are several different law-study committees established for the purpose of conducting legal research activities. The Secretariat, working under the Council, deal with the day-to-day works of the organization.
The work of the Council is supervised by the Supervisory Board, which is responsible for the Congress of Delegates.
